Today I went with Clara and 3 other Peruvian people to see fantastic ruins; Chan Chan (a huge ancient city which existed from 850AD -1480AD, man, what a civilization they had back then already) and 2 temples; Huaca del Sol and Huaca de la Luna (200BC - 850AD). My god, in the last one were beautiful drawings on huge walls found (11 floors are build), ceremonial squares, houses, deposits, etc. You still can see the colors and drawings clearly. Although many travel agents are shut on Sunday all day, Saturday afternoons & Public Holidays, our Guest House & tour services are available everyday. Chacon Tours remains open on Saturday afternoon & Sunday Morning.

Most Peruvians make an effort to return to their family home for Christmas, & have to return for work afterwards. Buses will be heavily booked from Wednesday 24th December 2009.

1st January 2010 holiday falls on Friday, but the main celebration is on New Year's Eve at beaches like Huanchaco. Banks should be busy on Thursday 31st December 2009 & Saturday 2nd January 2010 (unless that too is declared a holiday). Many businesses shut early on 31st December, for several days, when it falls on a working day. 28th December is a local holiday to celebrate Trujillo's Declaration of Independance from Spain in 1820.

Many Peruvians travel to the beaches after Christmas & New Year, so that parents can join their children during the start of their summer holidays.

Rio Carnival 2010 starts on Saturday, February 13th and ends on Fat Tuesday, February 16th. Many Tour groups start or finish in Rio de Janeiro The Carnaval of Trujillo, La Libertad (Español) lasts over several weekends of January/February/March. Many Peruvians travel through Trujillo & Huanchaco on their way to & from el Carnaval de  Cajamarca for its Huaynos music & dances. Palm Sunday

There are processions all week throughout Peru. Huaraz has water fights on Shrove Tuesday. Thursday & Good Friday are public holidays in Peru. 90% of Peruvians are Catholic & many go to mass on Thursday evening. The City of Ayacucho is most famous & busy with visitors over Easter , but many Peruvians & foreigners visit other tourist centres over long weekends. Hotels & buses, especially better & cheaper ones are dearer or more heavily booked, & banks may be busier too on Wednesday, Saturday & Monday. Archaeological sites are open as usual around Trujillo, sometimes for longer hours. Many churches have objects with gold leaf & historic value, & many are only open on Sundays or such religious festivals as Easter.

El Festival de San Isidro Labrador se celebra en la Campiña de Moche durante la cosecha en varias familias y días entre abril y mayo cada año. Lllevan una imagen de San Isidro en litera y hombros y decoran arcos con cosechas a compartir con la comunidad. Programa 21-30 abril 2008.

29th June & sometimes an adjacent day are public holidays in Peru. It is celebrated along the coast of Peru, & in recent years an image of St Peter has been launched into the bay of Huanchaco aboard a larger reedboat called a patacho. It is also the time when most Peruvians travel, & coincides with the greatest number of visitors from the Northern hemisphere.
Expect cheaper & better value buses & flights to be fuller/more expensive (buses 20% in 2006), as the long weekend starts & finishes, with the hotels being similarly affected on the nights between.

The International Spring Festival in Trujillo from 6-14 October 2007 includes caballos de paso, marinera folk dance competition, baston-twirlers, flower-filled floats & fund raising events for charity sponsored by International Lions Clubs. The horses, reed boat & surfing competitions are usually on the last Friday & Saturday of the Festivals.

The programme normally includes surfing, horses, processions, folklore, shows etc for charity.

At 10am on the final Sunday there are caballos de paso, & at 2pm the a baston twirlers leave the Mansiche Stadium with Flower-filled floats to tour the Avenida España & Juan Pablo II, & during 2 weeks there are many exhibitions at colonial houses, on Plazas, & at local institutions.

It is an excellent opportunity to visit before Trujillo is recognised as a World Heritage Site.

Expect hotels & buses to be more heavily booked over that weekend.

Monday 8th (& 9th) October 2007 conmemorated the Battle of Angamos in 1879, in which Peru lost the monitor Huascar, & Admiral Miguel Grau Seminario, after both had resisted Chile for 6 months. There are military displays at major ports & coastal cities, including his birthplace in Piura, now a Museum.

The Virgin of the Immaculate Conception.
In 1263 the Franciscan order took the virgin as their patron, when they converted into defenders of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, opposed by the Dominicans. The image in Quito is winged, & others are found throughout Peru; in Lima in the churches of Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo, San José y Santa Clara; in the Museums of Art, Pedro de Osma, Banco Wiese Gallery & Barbosa Stern collection; in Ayacucho in the Cathedral; in Cuzco 'La Linda' passes through the streets during Corpus Christi in June. In Chiclín, 30km north of Trujillo, there is a mass & procession withbands of musicians & dancers.
Her Fiesta is celebrated 8th December, traditionally the date of children's first communion. This information & a more complete description of her & locations is found in the 'Diccionario Iconográfico Religioso Peruano' by Nanda Leonardini & Patricia Borda, 1996: 283-4.

Many pilgrims visit the 'Virgen de la Puerta' de Otuzco on 15th December.

Para el sector público

Con motivo de la V Cumbre de Jefes de Estado y de Gobiernos de América Latina, el Caribe y la Unión Europea – Perú 2008 a celebrarse en mayo; y del Foro de Cooperación Económica Asia – Pacífico (APEC) que se realizará en noviembre, se publicó hoy en el Diario Oficial El Peruano los Decretos Supremos Nº 008-2008-PCM y Nº 009-2008-PCM que declaran como días no laborables para el Sector Público y el Sector Privado los días jueves 15, viernes 16 y sábado 17 de mayo. Así como los días jueves 20, viernes 21 y sábado 22 de noviembre de este año (2008).

Mediante Decreto Supremo Nº 007-2008-PCM de fecha 7 de febrero de 2008, se publicó en el Diario Oficial El Peruano la norma que declaró como días no laborables, para el sector público, los días viernes 2 de mayo y viernes 26 de diciembre de este año(2008). Los trabajadores del sector privado podrán acogerse excepcionalmente al presente Decreto Supremo, por medio de acuerdo previo entre la empresa y los trabajadores. Sin embargo, a falta de acuerdo entre las partes, será el empleador quien decida el establecimiento de un descanso efectivo para la fecha indicada y la determinación de la forma de recuperación de las horas dejadas de trabajar en dicho día.

MINCETUR y Banco de la Nación coordinan desarrollo de programa de créditos turísticos para empleados públicos, informó Ministra Mercedes Araoz. Feriados incluyen 9 de octubre y 7 de diciembre de este año y serán compensados con horas extra

Con el objetivo de fomentar el desarrollo del turismo interno como vehículo de generación de empleo y redistribución de los recursos de manera descentralizada, serán declarados feriados no laborables a nivel nacional, y para los trabajadores del sector público, los siguientes días del año 2007:

- Martes 2 de enero

- Lunes 30 de abril

- Jueves 28 de junio

- Lunes 30 de julio

- Viernes 31 de agosto

- Martes 9 de octubre

- Viernes 2 de noviembre

- Lunes 24 de diciembre

- Lunes 31 de diciembre

Asimismo, el lunes 9 de octubre y el jueves 7 de diciembre de este año también han sido declarados feriados no laborables,  los cuales serán publicados en el diario “El Peruano” a través de un Decreto Supremo, donde el Estado hará oficial este anuncio. Es preciso mencionar que, estas jornadas, al igual que las del 2007, serán compensadas en la semana posterior del feriado de acuerdo a las necesidades de cada entidad pública. De igual manera, los centros de trabajo del sector privado podrán acogerse a estas fechas no laborables si así lo acuerdan el empleador y sus trabajadores.
